For many overseas, the Toyota Hilux is as recognizable of a name as the Camry or RAV4 is to us. But later this year, that will change as the Hilux is finally released in America. As a rival to the Ford Ranger, the Hilux is sure to delight many with its rugged reliability and versatility. To learn more about this new model, keep reading as we review what we know.
Updated Design
Toyota, at present, is keeping things under wraps about design specifics. However, through spy photos and digital rendering specialists, we have some idea of what the truck may look like.
From what we can gather, the Hilux will feature a boxy grille with slim headlights. The front bumper seems to have sculpted side sections, and there’s a prominent skid plate. It also seems like the model’s fenders will use plastic cladding, while the rear looks to have integrated steps on the bumper.
Enhanced Performance
From what we can gather, the Hilux will be powered by a mild-hybrid 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. Depending on the market, a gasoline model will also be offered. Toyota has also introduced prototypes for fully electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains. But there’s no confirmation that these will come on the Hilux.
